Traveling for Plastic Surgery

Dr. Shinji Lee is highly sought out not only by men and women in New York but by individuals from across the nation and around the world. She and her elite staff at Plastic Surgery Center 46 are happy to assist you if you are traveling to Manhattan from outside of the New York area. Rest assured that they will do their utmost to make your plastic surgery journey as smooth, easy and comfortable as possible.

Requesting a Consultation and Emailing Your Photos

The first step is to contact Dr. Lee’s practice by emailing or calling her office. You will also need to submit recent photos of the body area(s) for which you are inquiring about surgery. The photos will need to match the views found in Dr. Lee’s before-and-after photo gallery, which include front-facing views, side-views and oblique views (45 degrees from the front). Further instructions for the photos may be given based on the treatment area. Dr. Lee will evaluate these photos thoroughly before your consultation. Then, her staff will reach out to you to schedule a consultation either via phone or Skype so you can discuss your needs and goals in detail with Dr. Lee.

Scheduling Your Surgery

Once you have decided to proceed with surgery, Dr. Lee’s staff will review all details of the proposed treatment plan, including pre- and post-op instructions, risks and the results you should realistically expect. Your in-office consultation visit, surgery date and post-op appointments will be scheduled. Dr. Lee’s staff will also send you a pre-operative packet that includes instructions and guidelines for you to follow, and consent forms that you must sign and return.

During this time, we will provide you with information about transportation, local hotels and restaurants. The three major airports that serve New York City are John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Planning Your Stay in New York

Arrive One or Two Days Before Surgery
For safety purposes, you are required to arrive in New York at least one day prior to your scheduled procedure. This is also so Dr. Lee and her team can meet with you in person prior to surgery and, if necessary, conduct last-minute laboratory tests or exams.

After Your Surgery
Dr. Lee recommends you stay in New York during your initial recovery instead of traveling home. Being close to the doctor and her staff is the safest and most convenient option for your recovery. Be advised that different surgical procedures require different minimum lengths of stay, ranging from three to 10 days.

Because your energy levels and mobility will be limited immediately after surgery, Dr. Lee recommends that a loved one accompany you to and from surgery, and so they can stay with you for the first 24 hours of recovery. If necessary, a private duty nurse can also stay with you during this time period. You are required to return to Dr. Lee’s office for at least one follow-up appointment after surgery.
