Body Contouring Manhattan

Body contouring refers to a group of cosmetic procedures that address stubborn fat and loose skin that do not respond to weight loss efforts, whether they be diet and exercise or bariatric      surgery. Among the most popular body contouring procedures are liposuction and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), both of which are available at Plastic Surgery Center 46 with Dr. Shinji Lee. When expertly planned and executed, these body contouring procedures can produce noticeable and long-lasting results.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is considered by many to be the gold standard in fat removal, used to eliminate small bulges of fat on various body areas, including the abdomen, neck, hips, thighs, back, upper arms and buttocks. There are several liposuction techniques available; Dr. Lee will select the one that is most appropriate for your aesthetic needs and goals. Traditional liposuction involves creating several small incisions and inserting a thin tube known as a cannula to gently break up the fat tissues before suctioning them out. Dr. Lee is meticulous in her approach to liposuction. She is careful to not overcorrect or under-correct the area so the results appear natural.

Once the fat cells are removed, they cannot return. Nevertheless, healthy exercise and eating habits are important to maintain your slimmer physique after liposuction. Liposuction can be performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with another body contouring procedure to achieve more comprehensive results.

What is Tummy Tuck?

Treating Patients in New York and New Jersey

Tummy tuck removes excess, loose skin to create a flatter and firmer abdominal contour. The procedure can also address weakened abdominal muscles that have separated due to pregnancy or weight gain. Dr. Lee offers both full tummy tuck and “mini” tummy tuck, depending on the degree of correction desired. Full tummy tuck requires creating a horizontal incision slightly above the pubic hairline, from hipbone to hipbone. Through this incision, Dr. Lee sutures the separated muscles to create a tighter and flatter abdominal wall. If necessary, she performs liposuction to remove pockets of fat before excising loose skin. The remaining skin is redraped over the tissues, and the incisions are closed with sutures.

Dr. Lee may recommend a mini tummy tuck if the trouble spots are limited to the lower abdomen. This technique requires a shorter incision and quicker recovery than full tummy tuck. The surgeon will consider various factors, including your personal preferences, when recommending a surgical technique.
